Pas de deux

The weather was relatively friendly on Sunday so went ahead with the plan to catch the Singapore Dance Theatre’s Giselle in the Park at Fort Canning Green.

It was my first time watching ballet in the open and because the location suits the settings of the story (a forest by the Rhine river and a graveyard), the atmosphere was actually very nice. The only letdown is the fact that there wasn’t any live orchestra accompanying the ballet.

I like it that everyone was letting their hair down that Sunday, enjoying the outdoors lying around on the spacious field with their family / friends/ loved ones. Like many, we brought our picnic mat and some snacks along :)

The performance itself was a-ok, I thought. Some of the danseurs could do better with higher precision in their steps. The ballerinas, on the other hand, were almost flawless. I particularly love it when Natalie Clarke -who plays Giselle- did her entrechats and also when the Wilis did their grand jetés in Act II. So graceful and delicate!

May check out Ballet under the Stars in July, although I’m not sure if I would fancy excerpts of popular ballets rolled into one performance as opposed to a full-length one. Should be going for The Nutcracker in December, though :)

Really love this particular photo of Giselle I found in a blog of one of the audience (thank you!) . She looks almost fragile here it hurts.
